The artwork on our cans are original sketches by Mr Aubrey Pieterse, Aubrey studied Fine Arts at Wits Technikon from 1988 -1990. His artwork has mainly been a hobby and from time to time doing commissions for friends and family.
Aubrey says the artwork for the Big 5 wines cans was quite a challenge as he sketched black on white and ultimately inverted the black lines into white to place on a black background. Why this was a challenge is because whilst sketching he had to sketch with the end product in mind. So for instance if you are sketching an “eye”, you would normally sketch the pupil in black and leave the white of the eye white, in this instance he needed to sketch the white of the eye in black and leave the pupil white. As can be seen in the Lion and Leopards eye’s below
